Intentionality: What is the state of your ‘life’ road?
Dedicated to my Uncle Ron who passed away on August 10, 2021. A man that lived his life with intentionality.
My boys go for extra soccer training at a club in Cork city. To get onto the club grounds we turn from a main road and go down a single lane road, it’s like an extended driveway. Over the months of neglect, potholes have appeared, and one pothole has grown so deep and wide that people have started going up on one side to get around it. This has caused grooves the width of most car’s tire span to now be a permanent fixture on the road. As I was driving down this ‘road’ recently I thought of the saying — The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
If the road to hell is paved with ‘good’ intentions that what is the road to heaven paved with? Probably like many people, the lockdowns have given me time to reflect and think more about my purpose. I’ve been challenging myself to examine relationships with God, my husband, children, colleagues, and myself. Being in lockdown made me think about how I spend my time. Now that life is re-opening, I’ve been focusing on what things are important to me and if one way to determine their importance is based on how much time I spend doing that thing or with that person. For example, as I’ve always worked from home I need to switch off from work and not be tempted to check my e-mails or catch up on that project when I should be spending time with my family. Or if the amount of time I spend watching TV is more than I’m reading my bible does that say…
